A long time ago, I was given a really simple method to use mirrors. Something simple enough I thought I’d share. The idea was to use it to possibly glimpse a past life. The success of which lies just as much in your ability to relax and hold a direction. If you’re expecting a long ritual, well that’s just not me lol. What I will give you is an explanation on how to use mirrors so that everyone can give it a try if they like.
Now you can use a regular mirror or a black mirror. Like many things, a black mirror is a tool. Due to lack of knowledge and the fear of the unknown, this tool is often getting trademarked as evil rather than researched and used. Rather than preaching fear, I would like to offer some simple ways to use these tools that will apply to both of its forms.
Something of interest. What we will be doing is similar to what happens when you stare off into space and your eyes lose focus. The main difference being, of course, that you are still sitting with a mirror in front of you and it is being given your indirect attention. After staring at a mirror for about a minute you will experience a distortion of your reflection. Your face may lose focus and appear to warp. Fog or clouds can appear to be moving from the outside in. You may see completely different people all together. This is not Satan coming for you. This is your eyes and your mind playing with a blurred image. This is a step of success as it means it is allowing for you to access other senses at this point and use what you see to find your answer that you seek.
So let’s start out. Make sure your mirror has a clean surface so that you won’t get distracted. Breath deeply and slowly to relax yourself. You can choose to light a candle and place it off to the side in front of you or not. If you do, be extremely careful that it is not close enough for you to bump or brush over. Try breathing in for a count of four, hold for a moment then breathe out for a count of four. Hold for another moment and repeat. If you feel you are craving air then you are counting to slow.
Here are two ways to go about the next step. One is you can simply sit down with it in front of you. Or you can hold the mirror up to your nose and look into it and through it. Then slowly pull it away. This will help teach you how to let your eyes unfocus.
In either situation, one of the first things that happens is that when the above mentioned distortion begins, many react by looking at it. Not an unexpected response really. But what it does is refocus your eyes and brings you back to the present rather than the open state that we are aiming for. Don’t get frustrated. It happens. Simply acknowledge what has happened then restart your breathing and begin again. What happens next will depend on what you are looking for.
In this particular case we are focusing on seeing something of our past life. This is often a popular one and something that people view as being a bit easier because you are really just looking for you.
Now focus on what you want and look past the surface. Look deep into your reflection and allow your reflection to reform in front of you. If this is yours and not another quirk of the eye and mind you should feel it. A deep down gut instinct that this is you. You may feel startled, emotional, or inquisitive. Sometimes you may feel swept into these memories. Reliving a part of it or just seeing that part of time. No matter what, always remember this is not the who you are now. It is simply a past long gone.
When you are done make sure you let go. If you had success or not, don’t take any emotional baggage with you. Count your breathing and ground your energy. Write down your experience if you want to. Go get something to nibble on. Odd as that sounds it helps bring you back to this world. It acts to remind you of the here and now. Last but not least, enjoy your experiences. Learn from them but don’t let them rule you.
